Dr Alex Ryan
Registered Psychologist since 2001
Alex Ryan holds a PhD in psychology from the University of Adelaide (2000) and is a specialist in relationship counselling, stress, depression and pain management. Dr Alex is a registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and a long-standing member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). He is a published contributor in eight scientific health journals. Having worked face to face with individuals and couples for 14 years, Alex has seen many individual and relationship problems and clocked up thousands of hours of one-on-one counselling experience. In addition to this, Alex has been personally driven for over 20 years to explore and understand the mind, people and relationships. An interest that to this day has not wavered.
With a true calling to help people, Alex enjoys it when his clients reap the rewards of newly acquired psychological skills and experience, and find new ways to think and relate to people including their romantic partner.
Early on in his career Alex realised many people had little education with the mind and relationships. No-one gets a handbook on life and relationships at school and good quality information is scarce. This made Alex write books on psychology that are accessible and results-focused. The first book on the mind, Heads Up: Understand Your Emotional Mind (Now called Unlimited Energy), was released in 2007. This was then followed by the release of Spicy Bedroom Recipes, a book he wrote with his wife, Marie Ryan, about aphrodisiacs, love and romance.
Frustrated with the lack of basic relationship knowledge amongst clients, Alex was inspired to write Spicy Bedroom Recipes with his wife and qualified chef, Marie. It’s an innovative, fun book that saw them extensively research how aphrodisiac cooking combined with better relationship skills can inject more spice and develop longer, lasting romance. This book was updated and relaunched in 2013 as ‘Love Bites: Recipes for Romance’ – the perfect vehicle for their combination of skills as psychologist and chef.
Alex practices around Adelaide and regularly conducts consulting and training calls with clients.
He presented a regular psychology segment on the Peter Goers tonight show on ABC National 891, has appeared in numerous newspaper and magazine articles, and makes regular radio appearances.
